Research Areas

The application of computational methods to the modeling of complex systems is a rapidly growing area of research at the University of Pittsburgh. Researchers from the Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Physics Departments have joined forces to undertake collaborative studies in the modeling of complex materials. Representative research projects are listed below.

Representative Research Projects

  • Protein folding and binding
  • Zeolite nucleation
  • Coarse grained models of complex molecular species
  • Polymer-surface interactions
  • Properties of gas hydrates
  • Ion transport through biological ion channels
  • Agglomeration and segregation of cohesive materials
  • Absorption on nanotube surfaces
